    "THE tool for handling eBooks"

    Summary:
    While the interface could def. use an update/overhaul the functionality is on the other hand perfect. Lots of support for formats and conversions and you can add custom tags (f.ex. books I'd like my wife to read).

It can go out to the Internet and fetch metadata for your books. It can download newspapers and convert them into ebooks for convenient reading. It is cross platform, running on Linux, Windows.
